Lime Putty

Fine-grade, non-hydraulic, pure ‘fat lime’ Matured Lime Putty from high-calcium, Carboniferous limestone quicklime from Shap, Cumbria.

Lime Putty is a versatile and traditional, high-calcium lime binder used to make: Lime Mortar, Lime Plaster, Lime Render, Shelter Coats & Limewash.

Lime Putty is a suspension of Calcium diHydroxide Ca (OH)2 (Hydrated Lime) combined with water.

It is produced from re hydrating (slaking) high-calcium quicklime under an excess of water into a thick viscous paste and left to mature for later use or added to sand or aggregates to make lime mortar, lime plaster, lime render, limewash and lime sheltercoats.

Lime Putty based products also known as Non-Hydraulic, Fat Lime or Air Limes air set or carbonise in the presence of Carbon Dioxide (Co2) in the atmosphere. They are the most flexible and breathable of the limes working harmoniously with softer brickwork and stone most associated with historic buildings.

NB. Supply and sale of components and products for various construction systems ordered from our website, over the phone or from our Yard does NOT constitute a specification.

NB. Lime Putty is a fine-grade and may require sieving to make a superfine limewash or lime putty for Venetian polished plasters.

NB. Lime Putty may contain traces of Silica Sand due to the production process.
